Dear parents --Starting today Wed Feb 21 running practice will end at 7:30pm at which point the athletes that want to try field events can begin practicing. That is long jump, high jump, and shot put. Field events are OPTIONAL but many athletes agree they are a lot of fun! It will be the athlete's responsibility (with help from parents) to pay attention to the coaches instructions and go to field event practice. You must be a certain age to participate in certain field events. Age requirements are listed in the Age Group tab under Field Events.
If your runner chooses not to go to a field event they will cool down/stretch with their usual running group and go home afterwards. Parents STARTING WEDNESDAY come pick up your child at 7:30pm if they are NOT participating in field events.
Hey Warriors, our first meet will be the MOCK MEET on March 3rd. Many of you will be looking for volunteer opportunities to complete your 8 hours. We will definitely need your help! To volunteer at meets you will use the DIBBS program on this website. You will find a DIBBS tutorial below. Having trouble? Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Larie Novack 626-644-5913
The Lost & Found bin is overflowing with lost items. Please come take a look after practice and claim your athletes personal things. Also a good idea to label your athlete's sweatshirts, water bottles, etc.
Many people want to know the difference btwn the distance and sprint group. This is a great question especially for first time track families...Ultimately it will be up to your athlete to decide but here are some helpful tips:
If your runner gets tired after 1 lap or prefers the shorter races like the 100, 200 and 400 meters they should be in the sprint group. Sprint group practices with coach Yeko (gremlins) Vivian (bantam) Rachael & Andrea (midget) and head coach Lamar. The sprint group stays at COC for practices.
If your athlete runs the 200 or 400 meters and feels like they are just getting warmed up, they might need longer races. Distance group has been reporting to Coach Dana and they have their own workout specific for long distance runners. Those events at a meet would be the 800, 1500 and 3000 meter races. They often have workouts in central park or somewhere they can run hills.
